Yi-Qing NI

Introduction

Yi-Qing NI is a Professor at Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong, and the Director of Intelligent Structural Health Monitoring R&D Center, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University Shenzhen Research Institute. He obtained his BEng degree (1983) and MSc degree (1986) from Zhejiang University, China and PhD degree (1997) from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong.

Prof. Ni is currently a Council Member of the International Society for Structural Health Monitoring of Intelligent Infrastructure, and a Co-Chair of Committee on Sensors and Actuators, Asia-Pacific Network of Centers for Research in Smart Structures Technology. He serves as a member of the Organizing Committee of the biennial Stanford’s International Workshops on Structural Health Monitoring, a member of the International Scientific Committee of the biennial European Workshops on Structural Health Monitoring, and a member of the Program Committee of the annual SPIE Smart Structures/NDE Conferences on Sensors and Smart Structures Technologies for Civil, Mechanical, and Aerospace Systems.

Prof. Ni’s research areas include structural health monitoring, structural dynamics and control, smart materials and structures, sensors and actuators, and monitoring and control in rail engineering. He is an associate editor of International Journal of Rail Transportation (Publisher: Taylor & Francis), and an editorial board member of Mechanical Systems and Signal Processing (Publisher: Elsevier), Structural Control and Health Monitoring (Publisher: John Wiley & Sons), and Structural Monitoring and Maintenance (Publisher: Techno-Press).

Prof. Ni has published 120 SCI journal papers with an H-index of 23, 8 book chapters and 230 international conference papers. His “Mega-Structure Diagnostic and Prognostic System” received a Gold Medal and a Grand Prize at the 37th International Exhibition of Inventions, Geneva (2009), and his “Intelligent Ship-Bridge Anti-Collision Surveillance System” received a Gold Medal and a Grand Prize at the 41st International Exhibitions of Inventions, Geneva (2013).
