The 2023 Far East Nondestructive Testing New Technology Forum Held in Tianjin

 

With the strong support of 61 units and the joint efforts of hundreds of volunteers, after more than 100 days of intense preparation, the 2023 Far East Nondestructive Testing New Technology Forum was successfully held in Tianjin from June 13th to 15th, 2023. More than 800 experts, scholars and industry elites from all over the country attended the forum. The theme of this forum is "Innovate and Create the Future of Nondestructive Testing".

 

1. Opening Ceremony

At 8:30 am on June 13th, Mr. Qiang Tianpeng, Chairman of the Far East Forum Council, announced the opening of the 2023 Far East Nondestructive Testing New Technology Forum. The scene of the opening ceremony is shown in Figure 1, and Mr. Qiang Tianpeng's announcement of the forum opening is shown in Figure 2.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Mr. Lin Shuqing, Executive Chairman of the conference, former President of the China Special Equipment Inspection and Research Institute and former Chairman of the China Special Equipment Inspection Association (see Figure 3). The leaders, guests and representatives of domestic and foreign academic organizations and institutions who attended the opening ceremony included Mr. Gao Jixuan, former Deputy Director of the Special Equipment Safety Supervision Bureau of the State Administration for Market Regulation, Mr. Zhao Jinheng, Deputy Director of the Tianjin Municipal Market Supervision Commission, Mr. Zhang Min, Second-level Inspector and Director of the Certification and Accreditation Department of the Tianjin Municipal Market Supervision Commission, Mr. Wang Xiaolei, Secretary-General of the China Special Equipment Safety and Energy Conservation Promotion Association, Mr. Zhang Hua, Secretary-General of the China Special Equipment Inspection Association, Mr. Xu Yongchang, Executive Deputy Director of the Nondestructive Testing Branch of the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society, Mr. Hu Qinghua, Director of the Personnel Department of Tianjin University, Mr. Lu Wei, Director of the Special Equipment Department of the Tianjin Municipal Market Supervision Commission, Mr. Zhao Qiuhong, President of the Tianjin Special Equipment Inspection Institute, Professor Liu Yongchang of Tianjin University, Professor Fan Zheng of Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, Dr. Subochkin of the Russian Academy of Electrical Sciences, Professor Tian Guiyun of Newcastle University in the UK/Electronic Science and Technology University of China, Professor Xu Chunguang of Beijing Institute of Technology, Professor Gao Xiaorong of Southwest Jiaotong University, etc.

Firstly, Professor Xu Chunguang of Beijing Institute of Technology, a member of the Far East Forum Council and Chairman of the Academic Committee of the 2023 Far East Forum, introduced the preparation of the 2023 Far East Forum on behalf of the organizing committee (see Figure 4). The 2023 Far East Forum received a total of 315 papers, including 223 Chinese papers. After review, 210 papers were accepted by the conference; 91 English papers were received, and 47 excellent papers were recommended to IEEE. The forum set up 16 theme sub-forums, including Photoacoustic and Ultrasonic, Electromagnetic, Infrared and Terahertz, Artificial Intelligence Empowering Nondestructive Testing, Special Equipment, Aerospace and Composites, Rail Transit, Nuclear Power, Oil Pipe and Equipment, Nondestructive Testing Standards and Related Technologies, Ships and Offshore Engineering, Array Sensing and Imaging Technology, Sensors and Instruments, Low Stress Manufacturing, Digital Radiography, and Tianjin Special Session; a total of 298 academic reports were arranged, including 16 plenary reports and 49 invited reports. There were 63 exhibitors at the forum. The forum will award the 2022 and 2023 Far East Forum Yangzhi Award, Climbing Award, and China Creation Special Award; the 2023 Fayi Outstanding English Paper Award, Matrix Technology Chinese Paper Award, Leading Outstanding Student Paper Award and Aintike Breakthrough Award. During the forum, the Zhejiang Institute of Special Equipment Science and the Far East Forum jointly held the second Zhijiang Yousheng Cup Nondestructive Testing Challenge, setting up 7 arenas. Among them, 4 were successfully challenged, winning the Ruijiang Award and Ruiqi Award, and the other 3 successfully defended their arenas. During the forum, the China Special Equipment Safety and Energy Conservation Promotion Association and the Far East Forum Council jointly held a problem-solving activity. On the registration day, 12 problems collected from enterprises were announced, waiting for experts and scientific and technological personnel to actively take on the challenges.

Next, Mr. Wang Xiaolei, Secretary-General of the China Special Equipment Safety and Energy Conservation Promotion Association, Mr. Zhang Hua, Secretary-General of the China Special Equipment Inspection Association, Mr. Xu Yongchang, Executive Deputy Director of the Nondestructive Testing Branch of the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society, Mr. Zhao Jinheng, Deputy Director of the Tianjin Municipal Market Supervision Commission, and Mr. Gao Jixuan, former Deputy Director of the Special Equipment Safety Supervision Bureau of the State Administration for Market Regulation, respectively delivered enthusiastic speeches (see Figures 5 - 9).

 2. Award Ceremony

The 2023 Far East Forum Award Ceremony was held at 6:00 pm on June 13th. The awards of the Far East Forum are divided into two categories: honorary awards and paper awards. Firstly, the honorary awards for the two years of 2022 and 2023 were presented, including the Yangzhi Award, the Climbing Award and the China Creation Special Award.

The 2022 and 2023 Far East Forum Yangzhi Awards were respectively awarded to two highly respected predecessors in the nondestructive testing industry - Mr. Gu Yinru and Mr. Shou Binan.

Mr. Gu Yinru was born in 1944, a professor-level senior engineer and an expert enjoying special government allowances. He is the Vice Chairman of the Nondestructive Testing Society of the Jiangsu Mechanical Engineering Society. He graduated from the Physics Department of Peking University in 1968. Since then, he has been working conscientiously in the front line of construction sites for decades, engaging in nondestructive testing and management work, and has overcome many construction and technical problems. He has won the "Luban Award", the highest quality award in the construction industry, and the third prize of Sinopec's scientific and technological progress.

Mr. Shou Binan was born in 1957. He is the former Vice President and Chief Engineer of the China Special Equipment Inspection and Research Institute, the Honorary Chairman of the Pressure Vessel Branch of the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society, the Deputy Chairman of the Pressure Vessel Branch of the Special Equipment Safety and Energy Conservation Technology Committee of the State Administration for Market Regulation, a member of the ASME Standards and Certification Council of the United States, the Vice Chairman of the Chinese International Working Group of the Pressure Vessel Volume, and the Chairman of the ISO/TC 11 Boiler and Pressure Vessel Standards Technical Committee. He has long presided over the formulation of national and industry key standards and research on key technologies for special equipment, and has won the first and second prizes of the National Science and Technology Progress Award and provincial and ministerial science and technology progress awards.

Mr. Liu Zifang, Deputy Chief Engineer of the Tianjin Special Equipment Inspection Institute and President of the Tianjin Special Equipment Safety and Energy Conservation Association, presented the award to Mr. Gu Yinru (see Figure 10). Mr. Qiang Tianpeng, Chairman of the Far East Forum Council, presented the award to Mr. Shou Binan (see Figure 11).

The 2022 Far East Forum Climbing Awards were respectively awarded to Ms. Li Hongmei of Sichuan University and Mr. He Yunze of Hunan University; the 2023 Far East Forum Climbing Awards were respectively awarded to Mr. Liao Shusheng of the Nuclear Power Institute of China and Mr. Li Wei of China University of Petroleum (East China). Professor Tian Guiyun of Newcastle University in the UK/Electronic Science and Technology University of China presented the awards to the winners of the Climbing Awards (see Figure 12).

The 2022 Far East Forum China Creation Special Award was awarded to the R & D and engineering application team of ultrasonic automatic testing technology and equipment of Wuhan Zhongke Innovation Technology Co., Ltd.; the 2023 Far East Forum China Creation Special Award was awarded to two research teams, namely the research team of Mr. Guo Weican of the Zhejiang Institute of Special Equipment Science and the research team of Mr. Tian Guiyun of the Electronic Science and Technology University. Mr. Qiang Tianpeng, Chairman of the Far East Forum Council, presented the awards to Mr. Lin Guanghui of Wuhan Zhongke Innovation Technology Co., Ltd., Mr. Guo Weican of the Zhejiang Institute of Special Equipment Science, and Mr. Tian Guiyun of the Electronic Science and Technology University (see Figure 13).

Next, the paper awards were presented. The first is the Leading Technology Outstanding Student Paper Award. The first prize in the English group was won by Dai Lunan of Nanjing University of Science and Technology; the second prize in the English group was won by Sun Fengshan of China University of Mining and Technology, Lang Yanfeng of Xi'an Jiaotong University, and Wu Zheng of Southeast University; the third prize in the English group was won by Liu Yi of the Electronic Science and Technology University, Duan Shuyu of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Zhang Wenjun of Beijing Institute of Technology, Zhang Qian of Southwest Jiaotong University, Li Xiang of Hunan University, and Jin Shijie of Dalian University of Technology.

The first prize in the Chinese group was won by Yang Yifan of Xi'an Jiaotong University; the second prize in the Chinese group was won by Zhang Shizhong of Sichuan University, Zhao Mingrui of China University of Petroleum (East China), and Yu Xiaoming of Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics; the third prize in the Chinese group was won by Su Bingjie of Xi'an Jiaotong University, Xu Yi of Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Liang Zhengzheng of Sichuan University, Du Xu of Hunan University, Li Changyou of Northwestern Polytechnical University, and Yang Shiji of Guangdong University of Technology.

Professor Fan Zheng of Nanyang Technological University in Singapore presented the awards to the winning students in the English group of the Leading Outstanding Student Paper Award (see Figure 14), and Professor Gao Xiaorong of Southwest Jiaotong University presented the awards to the winning students in the Chinese group of the Leading Outstanding Student Paper Award (see Figure 15).

The second paper award is the Matrix Technology Chinese Paper Award. The special prize was won by Liang Zhaoqing of Nanjing Chenguang Group Co., Ltd.; the first prize was won by Shu Jialong of China Nuclear Power Inspection Technology Co., Ltd. and Qi Pan of the Key Laboratory of In-Service Inspection and Evaluation of Nuclear Power of China Nuclear Power; the second prize was won by Cao Binghua of China University of Mining and Technology, Liu Ziqi of Nuclear Industry Engineering Research and Design Co., Ltd., Zhang Pengfei of China Nuclear Power Inspection Technology Co., Ltd., and Zhang Xiaofeng of Nuclear Industry Engineering Research and Design Co., Ltd.; the third prize was won by Zheng Jinhua of Shanghai Composite Materials Technology Co., Ltd., Ren Yi of Jiangsu Special Equipment Safety Supervision and Inspection Institute, Lei Yikun of China Nuclear Power Inspection Technology Co., Ltd., Teng Guoyang of Zhejiang Institute of Special Equipment Science, Chen Jian of Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China Shanghai Aircraft Manufacturing Co., Ltd., Yang Pengzhan of Tianjin Siweiqi Detection Technology Co., Ltd., Zhang Yang of Tianjin Chengxinda Metal Detection Technology Co., Ltd., and Liu Taili of China Special Equipment Inspection and Research Institute.

Mr. Jiang Yunxi of Matrix Technology Co., Ltd. and Mr. Zheng Kai of Jiangsu Special Equipment Safety Supervision and Inspection Institute presented the awards to the winners of the Matrix Technology Chinese Paper Award (see Figure 16).

The third paper award is the Fayi Outstanding English Paper Award. The winners are Ni Chenyin of Nanjing University of Science and Technology, Tao Yu of Suzhou Nuclear Power Research Institute Co., Ltd., Feng Feilong of Shaanxi Normal University, Teng Guoyang of Zhejiang Institute of Special Equipment Science, and Yin Peng of Beijing Institute of Technology. Professor Wang Haitao of Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics presented the awards to the winners of the Fayi Outstanding English Paper Award (see Figure 17).

To further promote the development of nondestructive testing technology, encourage instrument developers to innovate, inspire testing personnel to study intensively, advocate the spirit of craftsmanship, and cultivate a generation of great craftsmen, the Far East Forum has held the Zhijiang Yousheng Cup Challenge since 2019. The 2023 Zhijiang Yousheng Cup Nondestructive Testing Challenge had a total of 7 arenas. Among them, 4 arenas, namely Arenas 2, 5, 6, and 7, were successfully challenged, and 3 arenas, namely Arenas 1, 3, and 4, successfully defended their positions.

Gong Chenggang of Jiangsu Zhongte Chuangye Equipment Testing Co., Ltd. successfully challenged Arena 2 and was awarded the Ruijiang title, and the Omniscan MX device of Olympus with the model MX1 was awarded the Ruiqi title; Wu Shuying and Li Changcheng of Wuhan Qingchuan Welding Nondestructive Testing Co., Ltd. successfully challenged Arena 5 and were awarded the Ruijiang title, and the eddy current flaw detector of Wuhan Qingchuan Welding Nondestructive Testing Co., Ltd. with the model QC-WL-008 was awarded the Ruiqi title; Sun Yue of Guangdong Junxiang Technology Co., Ltd. successfully challenged Arena 6 and was awarded the Ruijiang title, and the full-focus real-time 3D ultrasonic imaging system of Shantou Ultrasonic Electronics with the model CTS-PA322T was awarded the Ruiqi title; Li Zhishui of Beijing Fuxingheli Technology Co., Ltd. successfully challenged Arena 7 and was awarded the Ruijiang title, and the ultrasonic detector of Beijing Institute of Technology was awarded the Ruiqi title.

The three successful defenders of the arenas were Qiang Tianpeng of Jiangsu Zhongte Chuangye Equipment Testing Co., Ltd., the defender of Arena 1, Zhang Guoqiang of Jiangsu Zhongte Chuangye Equipment Testing Co., Ltd., the defender of Arena 3, and Huang Lei of China Petroleum Group Engineering Materials Research Institute Co., Ltd., the defender of Arena 4. The successful defenders were awarded a certificate of successful defense, and the arena can be reserved as a classic challenging project for the next session.

Mr. Guo Weican of the Zhejiang Institute of Special Equipment Science and Mr. Luo Weijian of the Guangdong Special Equipment Inspection Institute presented the awards to the winners of the Ruijiang Award and Ruiqi Award of the Zhijiang Yousheng Cup Challenge (see Figure 18).

At the request of Aintike Technology Co., Ltd., it was decided to set up a new award starting from the 2023 Far East Forum to encourage original scientific and technological achievements in China's nondestructive testing field. The recipients of the 2023 Aintike Breakthrough Award include the phased array scanning system for tube-to-tubesheet weld joints developed by Jiangsu Zhongte Chuangye Equipment Testing Co., Ltd., the intelligent internal inspection robot for small-diameter oil and gas pipelines based on electromagnetic eddy current technology developed by Sichuan Deyuan Pipeline Technology Co., Ltd., the gas storage well inspection system and key technologies for risk prevention and control developed by Jiangsu Special Equipment Safety Supervision and Inspection Institute, the alternating current electromagnetic field testing instrument jointly developed by China University of Petroleum (East China) and Jining Luke Testing Equipment Co., Ltd., and the automatic ultrasonic testing system and supporting testing process for submerged arc welded steel pipe welds developed by China Petroleum Group Engineering Materials Research Institute Co., Ltd.

Mr. Zhang Rui of Aintike Technology Co., Ltd., Mr. Tian Guiyun of Newcastle University in the UK/Electronic Science and Technology University of China, and Mr. Xu Chunguang of Beijing Institute of Technology presented the awards to the winners of the Aintike Breakthrough Award (see Figure 19).

3. Report Exchanges

The 2023 Far East Forum arranged 298 academic reports in three days, including 16 plenary reports and 49 invited reports.

On June 13th, 4 plenary reports were arranged. Professor Xu Chunguang of Beijing Institute of Technology gave a report on "Low Stress Manufacturing Technology". Professor Tian Guiyun of Newcastle University in the UK/Electronic Science and Technology University of China gave a report on "Latest Advances in Electromagnetic Nondestructive Testing and Structural Health Monitoring" (see Figure 20). Professor Hu Ning of Hebei University of Technology gave a report on "Latest Advances in Nondestructive Testing Technology Based on Nonlinear Lamb Waves" (see Figure 21). Professor Fan Zheng of Nanyang Technological University in Singapore gave a report on "Advanced Technology Research on Defect Detection and Material Characterization Based on Ultrasonic Surface Waves" (see Figure 22).

On June 14th, 6 plenary reports were arranged. Researcher Li Faxin of Peking University gave a report on "Research on Metal Fatigue and Bolt Loosening Detection Based on Internal Friction". Dr. Dubov A A of Russia gave a report on "Technical Diagnosis Using Metal Magnetic Memory Method". Dr. Liu Shifeng of Qingcheng Acoustic Emission Research (Guangzhou) Co., Ltd. gave a report on "Intelligent Acoustic Emission Monitoring and Diagnosis Technology and Equipment Based on Internet of Things and Big Data System". Dr. Wang Zejun of Tianjin Special Equipment Inspection Institute gave a report on "Tianjin Special Equipment Inspection Practice of Inspection and Testing Technology System Application". Researcher Qiang Tianpeng of Jiangsu Zhongte Chuangye Equipment Testing Co., Ltd. gave a report on "Error Correction of DR Process Parameter Cognition and Application". Dr. Shubochkin A E of Russia gave a report on "Digital Radiography Practice of Replacing Film Radiography with Information Criteria".

On June 15th, 6 plenary reports were arranged. Professor He Yunze of Hunan University gave a report on "Dynamic Infrared Thermography Detection Technology and Application". Researcher Li Hongmei of Sichuan University gave a report on "Research and Development of Magnetic Flux Leakage Detection Defect Imaging Algorithm and Software". Director Han Zhixiong of Wuhan Zhongke Innovation Technology Co., Ltd. gave a report on "Application of Phased Array Technology in Automatic Ultrasonic Testing System". Researcher Liao Shusheng of China Nuclear Power Institute of Wuhan Nuclear Power Operation Technology Co., Ltd. gave a report on "Research and Application of Eddy Current Detection Technology in Nuclear Power Plants". Professor Li Wei of China University of Petroleum (East China) gave a report on "Intelligent Visualization Nondestructive Testing Technology and Application of Alternating Current Electromagnetic Field". Researcher Guo Weican of Zhejiang Institute of Special Equipment Science gave a report on "Research and Engineering Application of Key Technologies of Safety Testing Robots for Pressure Special Equipment".

At 5:00 pm on June 15th, 2023, the Far East Forum successfully concluded. The successful holding of this forum is the result of the joint efforts of the organizing unit, co-organizing units, supporting units, instrument and equipment manufacturers, authors of contributions, peer reviewers, participating representatives and the forum organizing committee.
