The 2024 Far East New Nondestructive Testing Technology Forum was successfully held in Zhongshan
From June 25th to 27th, 2024, the 2024 Far East New Nondestructive Testing Technology Forum was successfully held at Zhongshan Hot Spring Hotel in Guangdong Province. More than 800 participants and over 60 exhibitors came from all directions to the hometown of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, gathering together to discuss the future of nondestructive testing. Through three days of exciting technical sharing, full integration among various fields and close connection of all links in the nondestructive testing industry were achieved. Little by little, the glimmers of light converged into a torch, jointly contributing to the development and takeoff of the nondestructive testing cause.

2 Award ceremony
In order to reward the scientific and technical workers in nondestructive testing who have made outstanding contributions to promoting China's economic development and advancing the scientific and technological progress of nondestructive testing, further stimulate the enthusiasm and creativity of the vast number of nondestructive testing personnel, promote positive energy, encourage more people to engage in the nondestructive testing industry, facilitate international exchanges, and accelerate China's transformation from a large country in nondestructive testing to a powerful one in nondestructive testing technology, the Far East New Nondestructive Testing Technology Forum organizes the selection of a series of awards every year in accordance with the "Regulations on Awards of the Far East Forum" and commends the recipients during the forum. The award - giving ceremonies of the 2024 Far East Forum were held respectively on the evening of June 25th, 2024 and the morning of June 27th, 2024.
After extensive recommendations and evaluations by the organizing committee, it was decided that the Yangzhi Award of the 2024 Far East Forum would be presented to Mr. Xiao Dingguo, recommended by the Beijing Institute of Technology. Mr. Xiao Dingguo was born in 1959. He was formerly employed by the Beijing Institute of Technology and served as an expert for reviewing scientific research projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology and the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense. For 25 years, he dedicated himself to the research and development of ultrasonic industrial measurement and ultrasonic nondestructive testing technologies. He achieved numerous creative inventions and major innovations in ultrasonic transducer technology, instrument technology, signal processing technology, and automatic scanning detection technology, etc., solving numerous technical problems in industrial fields such as aviation, aerospace, weapons, and electronics. The innovative achievements he completed have all been formulated into national standards and widely adopted. In particular, the innovative achievement of robotic automatic ultrasonic scanning imaging technology was formulated as the first ISO international standard for ultrasonic testing led by China, contributing to the development of ultrasonic testing technology and international cooperation. For 35 years, he has remained on the front line of education, teaching by example, emphasizing reform and practice, and has received numerous commendations for teaching and academic innovation. For many years, he has actively served the development of the Far East Forum, strictly controlling the quality of English papers for the forum.

To further promote the development of nondestructive testing technology, encourage innovation among instrument developers, inspire testing personnel to study intensively, advocate the craftsmanship spirit, and cultivate a generation of master craftsmen in the country, the Far East Forum has jointly held the "Zhijiang Winning Cup" Nondestructive Testing Arena Competition with the Zhejiang Special Equipment Inspection Institute since 2019. The winners will receive the "Zhijiang Winning Award" trophy and bonus, and will also be awarded the titles of "Smart Craftsman" (commending the operators) and "Sharp Instrument" (commending the instrument equipment).

The 2024 Far East Forum received a total of 452 abstracts for academic exchanges. It arranged 13 keynote speeches, set up 18 themed sub - venues with a total of 264 presentations, 34 invited talks, and 101 sessions of 3 - minute flash reports plus poster exchanges. With the aim of delving into the driving forces behind the development of NDE4.0, and in alignment with the strategic objectives of "Made in China 2025" as well as global competition dynamics, this forum meticulously analyzed the persisting pain points and challenges that the current industry is confronted with, along with the potential benefits and hurdles stemming from technological transformation. For the inaugural time, a specialized salon themed "NDE4.0: From German Industry 4.0 to Made in China 2025" was convened. Six experts hailing from diverse fields were cordially invited to impart their invaluable experiences in implementing NDE4.0 within the industry, deliberate on industry demands, and conduct an in-depth exploration of the pivotal role that NDE4.0 plays in the "Made in China 2025" strategy, as well as its tremendous potential in propelling advanced manufacturing and intelligent operation and maintenance forward.
The special salon was moderated by Associate Professor Peng Jianping from Southwest Jiaotong University. Mr. Qiang Tianpeng shared "The Impact of Industry 4.0 and Made in China 2025 on the Development of New Nondestructive Testing Technologies".
